More funding for "The Apple Tree..."

We recently had a big estate sale at my parents home and sold their belongings that I could not keep. After bringing a 10 ft. U-Haul to Colorado filled with momentoes, there were still over 2,000 items to sell! In 40 plus years of marriage and teaching, my parents had accumulated such lovely things. It was difficult to leave so much behind, but I am fortunate so many from the community were able to purchase these items to use in their own homes.

The proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the scholarship for several more years, so that was the positive side to saying, "Goodbye" to so many memories and momentoes. We currently received over, $4,000 from the sale of my parents things to use in the coming years for the scholarship fund! I am so happy we will be able to award $500.00 scholarships to student teachers and existing teachers within Tehama County! Thank you for supporting "The Apple Tree" and I will keep you posted on our next round of applicants in 2010!

Scholarships Awarded!

Congratulations Sandra, Rebecca, Adrienne, and April! Thank you for taking the time to meet with us at Antelope School, and for honoring my parents by making a difference in your students lives! We look forward to keeping you updated on how the above teachers will be using the funds throughout the new school year. They will be sending photos of their students using the supplies and materials your contributions have assisted in providing.

We met at Antelope Elementary School in Red Bluff, CA where my mom taught for over 28 years!

Memorial plaques remembering teachers and school board members that have served in the district...what a wonderful remembrance to see my parents names listed here!

We look forward to awarding future scholarships to teachers in Tehama County, and hope you will consider making a contribution to this worthy cause. Your funds will make such a difference in the lives of local elementary and high school students...our future depends on raising well educated children, and we can do that by supporting teachers, one scholarship at a time!

Congratulations Scholarship Recipients!

We would like to extend our Congratulations to 4 wonderful recipients for the first annual, "Apple Tree Scholarship Fund!"

Congratulations:

Sandra B. who is teaching 4th Grade in Tehama County and will be utilizing the scholarship funds to take her students to Sacramento to visit historical museums! With recent budget cutbacks and rising fuel costs, field trips are no longer offered to students unless fundraising is accomplished. Sandra looks forward to bringing back field trips that demonstrate the gold rush era for her students!

April B. is student teaching with deaf and hard of hearing students in Tehama County. She looks forward to purchasing special digital cameras and monitors that will enable her students to videotape themselves reciting stories, etc... These tools will greatly assist her students in communication skills using various technology!

Adrienne W. is a student teacher who will be applying her funds to many needed classes in the teacher preparation program she is pursuing in the areas of Family Child Development/Nutrition/ and more. She is adding on a Secondary Credential that will enable her to work with an even broader base of students in the coming year.

Rebecca G. is teaching 1st Grade in Tehama County and would like to apply scholarship funds toward purchasing additional books for the students home reading program. She would also like to purchase supplementary games and materials for her students that will help reinforce skills through games and manipulatives. She needs supplies to assist in teaching money, time, place value, parts of speech, etc...in the first grade curriculum.

We thank all of the many worthy candidates who submitted applications for "The Apple Tree Scholarship Fund." As you can imagine, it was difficult to narrow our selection down to 4 recipients. We hope to continue the scholarship fund yearly, and generate continued interest so that we might be able to award many more educators funds in the coming years. I know my parents would have been so pleased to see their love of teaching and children honored in this way.

We would welcome and appreciate your donation to the scholarship fund, and hope you will consider making a contribution. Click on the "Donate" button on the right sidebar for more information and to learn how your contributions will make a difference in the lives of students in Tehama County, California! Thank you!

Welcome to the Apple Tree!

Welcome friends to "The Apple Tree Scholarship Fund!" This site will serve as a liason between myself and our contributors to keep you informed on how your donations will directly benefit students and teachers in the community of Tehama County in California.

My parents, Harry and Lorraine Johnson, were both eductors in Tehama County for over 30 years! My dad Harry, taught at three local elementary schools, he coached basketball, lead the yearbook committee, taught history for several years at the high school level, and was principal at two area schools! He also served on the local elementary school board and touched many lives.

My mom, Lorraine Johnson, taught for over 40 years, in Missouri, Iowa, and California. For 27 of those 40 years she taught at "Antelope School" in Red Bluff, CA. Her love for students and mentoring new teachers was a constant passion even after her retirement in 2003. Since both my parents have passed, (Harry in 2006 and Lorraine in 2008) the scholarship fund was created to give back to the community in a meaningful way that honors them both as teachers, and their love for children!

Please visit again and see how your donations will directly serve students in and around the Red Bluff, CA community!

Welcome!
