Bidwell School was a fitting receipient this year in memory of Harry Johnson. Harry taught at Bidwel during the 1980's where students still remember being in his classroom, where hard work was rewarded in many unique ways. "Mr. Johnson" motivated his class with daily magic tricks and an engaging curriculum. We are happy to share his legacy by awarding Bidwell School with a scholarship benefiting students in grades K-5.

Bidwell held a special assembly on Feb. 14th, 2013 focusing on health, nutrition, and staying active with a jump rope expert who motivated and educated students with her talent! Photos to come!Denise K.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08024622351992408422noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979016538619265560.post-21750406922497822042011-12-15T19:23:00.000-08:002011-12-15T19:55:51.760-08:00Congratulations 2011 Scholarship Recipients!Congratulations to Mindy Dent at Berrendoes Middle School and Judy Spencer at Salisbury High School!

Mindy is an 8th Grade U.S. History teacher who is looking forward to her students participating in National History Day. Students will present various projects that fit their current theme of "Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History." The students will have the opportunity to compete at the state level where they will demonstrate research skills, analysis, and draw historical conclusions based on team projects.

Judy is the REACH teacher at her high school and teaches 20 at risk students. She will use her funds to assist in the WorkAbility Program where students learn life and work skills. Typically her students volunteer in these positions. As students are placed in a work program, she would like the students to continue with volunteer hours, but after several months demonstrating a successful work ethic, she would pay them $8.00 an hour for 4 hours a week for two or three months. Their employers would then add the students to their payroll after successfully completing their workplace skills.

It has been wonderful to see the many different ways that children of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from the scholarship fund. We look forward to keeping you updated with pictures and stories from students and teachers who have benefitted from your contributions!

Thank you for your interest in "The Apple Tree Scholarship Fund!"Denise K.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08024622351992408422noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979016538619265560.post-86553717269748064002011-09-28T14:27:00.001-07:002011-09-29T08:20:38.862-07:00Fall 2011 Scholarship ApplicationFall has arrived, and "The Apple Tree Scholarship Fund" is pleased to announce that the 2011 application for educator scholarships is available to download. After bringing a 10 ft. U-Haul to Colorado filled with momentoes, there were still over 2,000 items to sell! In 40 plus years of marriage and teaching, my parents had accumulated such lovely things. It was difficult to leave so much behind, but I am fortunate so many from the community were able to purchase these items to use in their own homes.

The proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the scholarship for several more years, so that was the positive side to saying, "Goodbye" to so many memories and momentoes. We currently received over, $4,000 from the sale of my parents things to use in the coming years for the scholarship fund! I am so happy we will be able to award $500.00 scholarships to student teachers and existing teachers within Tehama County! Thank you for supporting "The Apple Tree" and I will keep you posted on our next round of applicants in 2010!Denise K.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08024622351992408422noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979016538619265560.post-84061539253697095692009-06-17T09:08:00.000-07:002009-06-17T09:33:09.948-07:00Scholarships Awarded!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fTVOP29qyHM/SjkWK04hMrI/AAAAAAAAD4U/GPzdGOdJUuU/s320/IMG_0864.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348330407729377970" />
Congratulations Sandra, Rebecca, Adrienne, and April! This site will serve as a liason between myself and our contributors to keep you informed on how your donations will directly benefit students and teachers in the community of Tehama County in California.

My parents, Harry and Lorraine Johnson, were both eductors in Tehama County for over 30 years! My dad Harry, taught at three local elementary schools, he coached basketball, lead the yearbook committee, taught history for several years at the high school level, and was principal at two area schools! He also served on the local elementary school board and touched many lives.

My mom, Lorraine Johnson, taught for over 40 years, in Missouri, Iowa, and California. For 27 of those 40 years she taught at "Antelope School" in Red Bluff, CA. Her love for students and mentoring new teachers was a constant passion even after her retirement in 2003.
