Congratulations 2011 Scholarship Recipients!

Congratulations to Mindy Dent at Berrendoes Middle School and Judy Spencer at Salisbury High School!

Mindy is an 8th Grade U.S. History teacher who is looking forward to her students participating in National History Day. Students will present various projects that fit their current theme of "Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History." The students will have the opportunity to compete at the state level where they will demonstrate research skills, analysis, and draw historical conclusions based on team projects.

Judy is the REACH teacher at her high school and teaches 20 at risk students. She will use her funds to assist in the WorkAbility Program where students learn life and work skills. Typically her students volunteer in these positions. As students are placed in a work program, she would like the students to continue with volunteer hours, but after several months demonstrating a successful work ethic, she would pay them $8.00 an hour for 4 hours a week for two or three months. Their employers would then add the students to their payroll after successfully completing their workplace skills.

It has been wonderful to see the many different ways that children of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from the scholarship fund. We look forward to keeping you updated with pictures and stories from students and teachers who have benefitted from your contributions!
